Standby generators
Backup generators sized, connected and kept running
Load-shedding and outages cost a business in lost trading, spoiled stock and idle staff. We install, connect, service and repair generators for offices, shops, warehouses and estates, with the changeover wired by our own electricians.

Scope
Generator work for business sites
-
Load assessment
We list the equipment that must keep running during an outage and size the generator to it.
-
Installation and positioning
Placement planned around ventilation, noise and access for maintenance.
-
Changeover at the board
The generator connected to your DB board through a changeover, so it can't feed back into the supply.
-
Planned servicing
Services booked in line with the manufacturer's schedule, at times that suit the site.
-
Fault repairs
Generators that won't start, cut out or drop the load when it matters.
-
Units installed by others
Existing generators assessed, repaired or reconnected, whoever installed them.
On site
Installation without stopping the business
Connecting a generator touches the main board, so the changeover needs a planned shutdown. We book it outside your peak hours and brief your site contact on what goes off. Before we leave, we show your staff how to run and check the unit. Noise and exhaust are planned for as well, so nobody ends up working next to them.
- Changeover shutdown booked outside peak hours
- Delivery access for the unit planned
- Exhaust and ventilation clear of windows and doors
- Staff shown how to start and check it
- Service intervals noted for your file
Paperwork
From consultation to handover
- Site consultationSome installations need a site consultation first, with a refundable charge.
- Quote and depositValid for 7 days. Installations carry a 75% deposit before the unit is ordered.
- Connection paperworkOur own electricians connect the generator to your DB board and issue a COC where the work requires one.
- Handover notesOperating instructions and service intervals for your maintenance file.
Facilities FAQs
Generator questions from operations and facilities managers
What size generator do we need?
That depends on what must keep running, including the start-up load of motors and compressors. We list your critical equipment and size from that. Floor area alone tells us very little.
Generator or inverter?
Inverters handle short outages quietly; generators carry heavier loads for longer. Many businesses use both. See solar & inverter systems.
Can you service a unit someone else installed?
Yes. Send the make, model and service history, and we assess it before quoting.
How often should a standby generator be serviced?
Follow the manufacturer's schedule, which is based on running hours and time. A heavy load-shedding season uses up those hours faster, so check the unit more often then.
Can we plug it into a wall socket?
No. A generator must connect through a proper changeover at the DB board. Without one, it can feed power back into the supply and endanger anyone working on the lines.
