At Amptex Projects, we are committed to safeguarding your privacy. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect your personal information when you use our website (www.amptex.co.za) or contact us about our electrical, plumbing, generator, solar and water services. We handle personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).
1. Who we are
Amptex Projects, Randburg, Johannesburg. Email info@amptex.co.za or call 011 791 6121. Our Information Officer is Rita Pienaar, who can be contacted at the same email address.
2. Information we collect
- Information you give us: your name, phone number, email address, suburb or street address, the type of property, the service you need and a description of the problem. We collect this when you fill in our enquiry form, call, email or WhatsApp us, or book work.
- Newsletter sign-up: your email address, if you subscribe to our newsletter.
- Photos, videos and documents: pictures or videos of the problem, plans or earlier certificates that you choose to send us, by WhatsApp or email, or by uploading them with our enquiry form.
- Job and account information: quotations, invoices, compliance certificates (such as electrical COCs), payment records and correspondence about your work.
- Website information: IP address, browser and device type, and how you use our website, collected through cookies and similar technology. See our cookie policy.
Our website does not take payments. If you pay us by card (Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay or Google Pay), your payment details are processed securely by third-party payment processors and we do not store full card numbers.
3. How we use your information
- Service delivery: to respond to your enquiry, quote, schedule and carry out the electrical, plumbing, generator, solar or water work you asked for, and to issue certificates and invoices.
- Customer support: to answer your questions and follow up after a job.
- Accounts and records: to bill, collect payment and keep the records we are required to keep by law.
- Improvement: to understand how our website is used and to improve our website, services and customer experience.
- Newsletter and marketing: only with your consent, for example when you subscribe to our newsletter, we send you maintenance tips, news and offers. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out at any time.
We only use your information for the purpose it was collected for, or for a closely related purpose you would reasonably expect.
4. Sharing your information
We will not sell, trade or rent your personal information. We only share it when it is needed:
- Service providers that help us run the business, such as our website platform (Shopify, which also stores the photos and videos you upload with an enquiry), Cloudflare (which runs our upload service and its spam check, Cloudflare Turnstile), email, newsletter and messaging services, payment processors and accounting software. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Suppliers and manufacturers where your job requires it, for example to order a part or register a product warranty.
- Legal obligations: where the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.
Some of our service providers, including Shopify and Cloudflare, store or process information on servers outside South Africa. We only use providers that protect personal information to a standard comparable to POPIA.
5. How we protect your information
We take appropriate measures to protect your personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. Our website uses SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption to protect information sent through it. Photos and videos uploaded with an enquiry are stored under long, random web addresses that we do not publish, and the links go only to our office.
6. How long we keep it
We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected for, or for as long as the law requires, for example tax and accounting records. After that it is deleted or de-identified. Photos and videos you upload with an enquiry are kept only for as long as we need them for your enquiry, the job and our records.
7. Cookies
We use cookies to make our website work and to understand how it is used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some features of the website may then not work properly. Read our cookie policy for details.
8. Third-party links
Our website includes links to third-party websites and services, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those sites. Please review their privacy policies before submitting any personal information.
9. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- Request deletion of your personal information, subject to the records we must keep by law.
- Object to the processing of your information, and opt out of marketing at any time.
To exercise these rights, email info@amptex.co.za. We may ask you to confirm your identity first. If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa).
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be published on this page with an updated date, so please review it periodically.
